Cruciform Grain Bag Spreader Frame - Able Lifting (Southern) Ltd, Poole
Able Lifting had a customer requirement to uprate a cruciform spreader frame used for lifting 1 tonne grain bags to 1.25 tonnes. The spreader frame had been designed with angled arms to provide sufficient height of lift of the bags to lift them over guard rails in the factory.
Paul Engert Mechancial Design provided stress calculations of the structure, including the maximum bending stress and deflection at the base, shear through the arm structure, minimum pin diameter and strength of welds.
